I remember discussing with my husband regarding the core values we wanted to inculcate in our children. Although we discipline and train them accordingly, we've never spelt it out in full to them what all the family values are. With the older three mature enough to understand such concepts, I decided that it's time for us to highlight the values in a visual and explicit way.
1) Be loving
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” ~John 13:35
- Love others because God loves us
- Think loving thoughts, speak loving words and do loving things
- Be polite: say thank you/excuse me/please and ask permission
- Do to others what you want others to do to you
- Be punctual and not make people wait for you
2) Be responsible
- Take good care of your own belongings
- Keep your body healthy for it is the temple of God
- Work hard in all that you do
- Use the talents God has given you to bless others
3) Be pure
- See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil
- Protect yourselves from harm
- Run from temptation
4) Be forgiving
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." ~ Colossians 3:13
- Be quick to apologise for wrong doings
- Forgive easily and hold no grudges
