I started Joash on rice cereal a few days ago since he had been guzzling down almost 300ml of milk at dinner time and waking up in the middle of the night to drink even more milk. I had wanted to wait till he's 6 months old (which is in two weeks' time) but it looks like milk alone is no longer enough to satisfy his growing appetite.
His first experience was so hilarious! When I put the plastic bib on him, he thought that it was a new toy I'd gotten for him and began to suck on it!!! It sure took me a while to make known to him that it wasn't meant to be chewed on... of course, after I managed to stop myself from laughing and very nearly falling off my stool. When I placed a little cereal on his lips, he gingerly tasted it and grimaced. At first, he was kinda refusing to open his mouth. But after a few more tries, he started to want more. I bursted out laughing again when he started to suck on the spoon as if sucking on the teat! *faint* It took me another 15 min to teach him how to open his mouth for the food by first demonstrating to him how it's done with my own spoon. Phew! Now, he is getting the hang of it and easily wolfing down 3 tablespoonful of cereal! Way to go, Joash!
Tonight being Saturday, Joshua could finally join us for dinner cos during the weekdays he usually reaches home at around 8pm, and by then, Joash would have been in bed already. I whipped up a quick canned food dinner and we had our very first family dinner complete with Joshua giving thanks for the food. It was really fun and Joshua also had a hand in feeding Joash the cereal. I'm looking forward to regular family dinners when Joshua begins his new job which might allow him to come home earlier. Yeah!
