Trust

"I want a hamburger!" declared Joash as he pointed to a picture outside KFC.

Remembering his first encounter with this particular fast-food restaurant a few months back at the zoo, I tried to reason with him. "Trust me, Joash, you wouldn't want the burger. Mummy will get you the popcorn chicken you loved so much the previous time, okay?"

A tantrum ensued. Wanting to cover our bases, we decided to order both and told Joash sternly that he must eat the burger if we were to order it for him. He nodded his head earnestly.

When the food arrived, Joash saw the popcorn chicken and said that he wanted that instead. We told him 'no' since he was whining about the burger previously. "I don't want the burger!!!" he started to shriek. Trying to remind him of his insistent request just moments ago was futile and it quickly escalated into a match to see who was louder. We were attracting too much attention at the restaurant so I took him outside and after he managed to calm down, I urged him to trust me more since I know him better than he knows himself.

Aren't we all like little children when we respond to our heavenly Father?

God knows us better than we know ourselves. He created us and knows what we need and even what we secretly desires. He also wants the best for us. However, far too often, we lust for the wrong things, proudly think we can handle it our way by ourselves or angst over what we think we need/want the most and refuse to appreciated what has been given to us. Perhaps we go after various things to meet a need only to realize that God's solution is the best. Just like my daughter who would often scream for all sorts of things such as milk, juice, biscuits or a toy and fight the only thing she really needed: sleep.

The bottom line is, do we trust God to work all things together for good to those who love Him?

Proverbs 3:5,6
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

Here's a song I would like to share with you. I requested for my friends to present this song during my wedding 4 years ago and it still means a lot to me. :) Enjoy!
